Hun Sen Asks Asean to Protect Migrant Workers
Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday repeated a call for Asean countries to put a stop to the exploitation of migrant workers and urged the acceleration of efforts to provide protection for such workers. At the Asean Summit last month, Mr. Hun Sen said that protecting the rights of migrant workers would be part of his “Phnom Penh agenda”—the set of high priority issues for Cambodia’s year as the chair of Asean. Speaking at the opening of the Asean Labor Ministers Meeting at his office building in Phnom Penh yesterday, Mr. Hun Sen said, “Cambodia would like to request to all Asean member countries, please stick to legal principles and respect human rights by absolutely avoiding verbal abuse and exploitation of migrant workers.” …
